Q&A

How did you hear about Tower Guard?

I first heard about Tower Guard from a previous member whom I met in MSU’s wheelchair sports course (KIN 108W). She was super excited for me when I told her that I got to be a part of it, too! I learned about Tower Guard in more detail from an important email, which shared that I was invited to apply.

What made you apply to Tower Guard? What does Tower Guard's purpose mean to you?

I applied to Tower Guard because volunteering is a meaningful part of my life, and I couldn’t see myself pass up such a fantastic opportunity. To me, helping others without a request for anything in return is fulfilling. Although it is nice to receive support and kind remarks for my service, I am happy to help whether I receive them or not. I like to keep an open mind about accessibility and disability because I am constantly learning more. Being involved in an honors volunteer group allows me to meet others who are as passionate about volunteering and their education as I am. It also gives me a purpose and a way to give back to the community. I find being a part of something greater than myself very worthwhile. For me, Tower Guard’s purpose means serving others with disabilities in ways I haven’t done before, going in with a positive attitude, and learning from my experiences.

What does your position on Executive Board do?

As CSD Liaison, I attend the Council of Students with Disabilities (CSD) general member and executive board meetings. I invite Tower Guard members to CSD events and meetings. I also connect with Tower Guard’s Social Chair to welcome the CSD to Tower Guard social events. Joint events with Tower Guard and the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) are known as Spartan Ties events. I keep in touch with the previous CSD Liaison, too, who is CSD’s Secretary this year.

What are you most excited about for this year? What do you hope to see the Tower Guard class of 2023-2024 achieve?

I’m excited to get to know other Tower Guard executive board and general members! I can’t wait to have executive board meetings in Beaumont Tower. I also look forward to Spartan Ties events, such as pumpkin painting and homecoming parade float making. With the help of Tower Guard, I look forward to making a positive impact at MSU. I’d love to have a more welcoming, inclusive, and accessible campus. I believe that we can achieve this by embracing everyone’s identities, cultures, beliefs, and values.
