President
Dhruv Kekin Toprani
Bio!
I'm Dhruv Toprani, a computer and electrical engineering student at Michigan State. I like to stay busy, whether it’s research, working with student orgs, or leading Tower Guard as President this year. My current research focus is on optimization and human-robot interaction, but I always try to keep learning and stay open to new projects. When I put my headphones on, I’m usually either listening to AC/DC and Metallica or some good old Bollywood bangers. Fun fact about me, I can play chess blindfolded!
Q&A
How did you hear about Tower Guard?
I first heard about Tower Guard from a senior who was also from Dubai and was part of the Tower Guard class of 2022-2023.
What made you apply to Tower Guard? What does Tower Guard's purpose mean to you?
I was drawn to Tower Guard by its dedication to service and its unique tradition at Michigan State University. The organization's commitment to helping students with disabilities through the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) resonates with my belief in using leadership and teamwork to make meaningful contributions to the community. Given my previous experience with working towards inclusive education, Tower Guard’s purpose of empowering students and improving access to education, made it an opportunity I wanted to be part of. Working towards to a collective goal with a cohort of individuals exhibiting a commitment to excellence in the realms of scholarship, service and leadership is the most rewarding part of being a Tower Guard member.
What does your position on Executive Board do?
As President of Tower Guard, my role is to oversee the activities of the organization, guide my fellow executive board members, and ensure we fulfill our mission of supporting students with disabilities. I work closely with the team to coordinate events, foster a sense of community among our members, and maintain strong communication with the RCPD. I also lead efforts to uphold the traditions of Tower Guard while encouraging innovation in our approach to service.
What are you most excited about for this year? What do you hope to see the Tower Guard class of 2023-2024 achieve?
I’m most excited to see our class come together to create lasting impacts through our service initiatives and engaging fundraising. I hope to inspire collaboration and foster a supportive environment where every member feels empowered to contribute. My goal is for the Tower Guard class of 2023-2024 to not only uphold our traditions but to also explore new ways to enhance accessibility and inclusion at MSU. I look forward to seeing us grow both individually and as a team, making this a transformative year for everyone involved.
